Latest News -- August 16, 2008

I know I haven't updated this website in a while. I've been really busy with house repairs. In fact, I've been so busy that my glass studio has been shut down for two months. What can I say. Our house is old and in need of repairs.

As with all repairs, the whole thing snowballed. We've been chasing broken pipes around a bit. That's always time consuming. Nothing like trying to rid your house of mold over and over and over again. sigh...

Anyway, the Takoma Park Folk Festival is getting close -- less than a month away. Hopefully, by the end of this week, I'll be back to work making glass.

As promised, the pictures from the festival. A special thanks to the promoters for doing such an outstanding job with this show. As you can see from the pictures, the show is very big and is very complicated to stage.

I was stuck in my booth, so I don't have any pictures of the other events that were going on at the show. I could hear a band. There's also a petting zoo and a bunch of kiddie activites.

My apologies to those with dial-up. There's a lot of pictures.

Our booth set-up -- a bit different this year.

Lower-priced pendants and fused dichroic pendants.

More pendants and five of the remaining ten dichroic bracelets.

New line of pendants.

More pendants.

Our neighbor's work. That's all cut out with a saw. Wow.

BGOP members working in museum's permanent blacksmith shop.

Better shot of the shop.

Working with hot steel.

See the smoke from the forge from the back building.

Artist section -- bring your own tent.

Artist section -- Festival provides tent.

It is a strawberry festival. mmmmm... strawberries.

Can't have a festival without food.

Wouldn't be a festival without the 4H and animals.

Well, the good news is that despite unseasonably warm weather (that means REALLY HOT), we managed to do the Sandy Spring Museum Strawberry Festival without collapsing in a heap. The turnout was down a little bit due to the heat.

It looks like it's going to be a hot summer. That will give me a chance to get my website back up in working order. It was put on the back burner a bit while I worked on much needed house repairs.

Festival pictures will be coming a bit later on this week. Stay cool out there.

Sandy Spring Museum Strawberry Festival -- June 7, 2008

This Saturday, we will be at the Sandy Spring Museum Strawberry Festival.

I know that the price of a lot of things has gone up a lot this year. You'll be pleased to know that I haven't raised my prices yet on anything. Well, actually I haven't raised my prices in more than two years. This is probably the last show before my prices are raised. Come out and treat yourself to some artisan jewelry.

We're still trying to decide whether or not to do the Takoma Park Jazz Festival on June 15. If I decide to do it, I'll post that information here.

I have the applications on my website, so feel free to download them from here. Just use the links below:

I haven't updated my webpage for quite a while. I wanted some resolution of the events leading to Dawn's death. The wheels of justice do move slowly. An arrest has been made in the case. Dawn's long-time boyfriend, Darren Yax, was arrested and charged with Vehicular Homicide, DWI and reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle. His blood alcohol level was 0.10 which is above the legal limit of 0.08 in Louisiana.

There will be no happy ending. I'm sure Darren loved Dawn very much and never wanted to see her hurt. She left behind two small boys and the court system is still trying to decide who should be entrusted with their care. Darren is facing 2 to 30 years in prison if convicted. He has a young daughter who may be without the benefit of a present father.

It's all so sad and preventable. Please don't drink and drive.

It's been a busy year so far. I'm still trying to finish up all the custom orders from last year. I'll get there eventually.

Auctions for Dawn's kids have started. Tomorrow would have been her birthday. I'm still a little bit numb.

I have some items that are being auctioned off on eBay for Dawn's kids. At the moment, they are still way below retail value. You will need to be registered with eBay and PayPal in order to buy these items. Good news though, if you aren't already a member of these organizations, registration is easy and free.

First up is a set of pendants and earrings. This collection is substantially below retail value at the moment. I'm only putting up the picture of the pendants. The earrings were photographed separately and are part of the auction.

Next up is one of my dichroic bracelets. It's still below retail value.

Thank you for stopping by and reading my blog. I do hope you'll bid on my items and other items for Dawn's Boys. Thanks.

This holiday season will be a sad one for me. One of my friends, Heather Dawn Habisreitinger, was killed in a motorcycle accident on Wednesday. Dawn was a single parent with two young boys. She supported herself by making glass beads and creating jewelry. She was a member of The Mellow Bead -- an eBay group to which I also belong.

We are raising money for her kids. I've donated several items to be auctioned off in January with the money going to her kids. I am not hosting the auctions, but I will put links to them on this site once they are up and running.

For more information on the accident, here's the online news article:

http://www.2theadvocate.com/news/12694452.html

We don't know what really happened yet, but it serves to remind everyone to NOT drink and drive this holiday season (or ever).

Thoughful holidays to everyone. Think about the ones you love and tell them just how much they mean to you.

Another artist, Carole Donnellon, has used one of my dichroic pendants to make a necklace. It's available for sale on her site and is called Irreplaceable:
